International Women’s Day is Every Day
Happy International Women's Day!
On one hand, I love this "holiday."
On the other, I feel annoyed. 🙄 [Did you know that the International Women's Day website was launched in 2001 by a British marketing firm with corporate sponsorship? @circleschoolwithmitle]
I want to live in a world that honors, celebrates, supports, and protects the rights of women and girls EVERY day!
I feel the same way about Black History Month, Pride, and other Heritage Months - let's please honor each other all year long.
As I know you know, women hold a lot.
People, things, ideas, hope, possibilities, emotions, families, neighborhood, communities, and the world.
If you haven't seen Maira Kalman's Ted Talk, author of Women Holding Things, you must!
Here's a bite size (under 2-minute) clip and here's the full 14 minute shebang.
To tempt you to watch it, here's an excerpt:
"One day at a farmers market, I saw a woman carrying an absolutely gigantic cabbage.
When I asked to photograph her, she looked really annoyed.
And for some reason, I was so delighted by her crankiness.
It seemed so authentic and true.
Let's just say what we feel.
It made me think of all the things women hold literally and metaphorically.
Ballons and grudges
And heavy loads
And cabbages
And stupendous love and courage
And the pink ukulele under a cherry tree.
And from this a book was formed: "Women Holding Things".
What do women hold?
The home and the family and the children and the food.
The friendships, the work, the work of the world and the work of being human,
The memories and the troubles and the sorrows and the triumphs and the love."
If you are carrying a lot right now, I invite you to take a moment to set it down.
If you'd like to, take a deep breath in - the biggest you've taken all day. Exhale it out s l o w l y and fully, maybe with a shoulder roll just for kicks.
You deserve space to pause.
And not just on "International Women's Day."
EVERY day.
I have a big dream of more women feeling held instead of holding all the things.
Women allowing themselves to feel more ease ("absence of difficulty or effort") and enchantment ("a feeling of great pleasure and delight") in their lives.
If that sounds like something you need, and you're longing for a fully customized 1:1 retreat experience at a hot springs resort in magical northern New Mexico, reply to this email with a YES!
I'm offering extra special pricing for the first three women that book their Ease + Enchantment Days with me this Spring.
This view and tranquil serenity could be yours…
